Salta is a province in the northwest of the Republic of Argentina.
The city of Salta, capital of the province, is located at over 1100 metres above sea level, in the Lerma Valley, on the slopes of the San Bernardo hill. Popularly known as ?the beautiful Salta?, because of its attractive scenery, it has a very varied landscape around: woods, mountain rivers, impressive mountains and great deserts.
The city is characterised by its colonial Spanish architecture, with its low houses and narrow streets. The place's hills are different shades of brown and green. The old town is very interesting, with different museums, and churches that date back to colonial times.
Outside the city there are many different tours and excursions available: the Lerma Valley, the Cabra Corral dam and the Las Conchas ravine. Here you can admire a series of geological formations with unusual shapes and an attractive terracotta colour. The same road will take you to Cafayate, one of the loveliest parts of Salta.
