The Cuban city of Camagüey is the capital of the province of Camagüey. Its lovely coastline has the most keys and islands of any Cuban province, and the beaches are of the finest quality.
The city has much colonial architecture, and there are many ""tinajones"", traditional large earthenware jars, decorating the city, which were once used to store water. It is for this reason that the place is known as the City of Jars.
The Old Town, which is a National Monument, has been preserved as it was in colonial times. There are many interesting things to see and do, for example the Agramante Park, the Plaza de los Trabajadores (19th century), Nuestra Señora de la Merced Cathedral (1748), Santa Lucia beach (ideal for diving), and many more fascinating places. We also recommend visiting the Teatro Principal theatre (1850) which is the headquarters of the Camagüey Ballet Company.
You will love Camagüey, the City of Jars. Come and visit!
