Cyprus is an island south of Turkey, in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a constitutional republic and its capital is Nicosia.
Its best beaches are in the area around Lárnaca, the island?s second most important port. They are blessed with fine white sand and crystal clear blue waters. The city of Nicosia was walled in medieval times and it still has three gates standing from that old wall: the Pato, Famagusta and Cirina gates. Through the Famagusta Gate is the old neighbourhood of Laiki Geitonia, which has recently been restored.
The Troodos Mountains, which are covered in pine trees and cedars have little Byzantine chapels hidden away in them.
