La Romana is a province of the Dominican Republic. Many tourists come here for its lovely beaches, excellent hotel complexes and interesting places for leisure and entertainment. It was originally a sugarcane growing and processing location.
The most important parts of the province to see include: Saona Island, the city of La Romana, Altos de Chavón, Catalina Island and Cumayasa.
La Romana has the Caribbean's most complete and luxurious leisure and recreation centre, called Casa de Campo. Julio Iglesias, Sharon Stone, Oscar de La Renta and other personalities have villas here.
From the port of La Romana you can take a boat to Saona Island, which is part of the Este National Park. Its beaches, with their fine, white sand, are exceptional. Here, in bays of clear turquoise water surrounded by mangroves, you can see colourful fish and turtles. It is an excellent spot for diving and other water sports.
Altos de Chavón is the replica of a medieval town. Here there are wonderful views of the River Chavón, and don't miss the impressive open theatre.
Why not visit the lovely fishing village of Bayahibe and take a boat trip to Catalina Island?
Come to the paradise of La Romana.
