Colmar is a French town in Alsace, in the department of Haut-Rhin. It is situated at the meeting point of the valleys of the Rivers Munster and Rhine.
The old town is extremely well-preserved, and there are many buildings in the German gothic and early Renaissance styles. There are a number of important churches, such as St Martin's, from the 13th-century, and the Dominican church, where you can see the famous work The Virgin of the Roses. You can visit the Museum of Unterlinden, the Bartholdi Museum, the Toy Museum, the Koifhus, the Pfister House and Little Venice, a romantic area with typical Alsatian houses, enchanting corners and narrow, picturesque canals where you can take a boat trip.
As well as being a medieval town, Colmar is the wine capital of Alsace, and there is a Wine Route only a few kilometres away. Golf-lovers have good courses at hand, and for winter sports, the La Bresse ski resort is 6 km away.
