The French city of Nantes is the capital of the Pays de la Loire region and the Loire-Atlantique Département. It is on the banks of the Loire River.
One of the city?s most popular sights is the Castle of the Dukes of Brittany, built in the 15th century. The castle has recently been restored and an excellent museum has been installed there that deals with the history of Nantes and has displays on the art and architecture of the city. Its most well known display is the Tapestry of the States of Brittany.
We highly recommend visiting the Gothic style cathedral, which was built in the 15 th century in honour of St. Peter and St. Paul. You should also make time to go and see the Church of the Holy Cross (17th century) the Town Hall (17th century), the Graslin Theatre (18th century), the Tower of Brittany, the Chapel of St. Francis of Sales and the Palace of Justice, among other interesting sights.
Nantes also offers a wide range of museums, notable among which are the Museum of Fine Arts, the Dobreé Museum and the Jules Vernes Museum.
