Chemnitz is a German city that was heavily bombed during the Second World War, and so most of its buildings were replaced with a different, modern architecture.
The monumental bust of Karl Marx still reminds us of the place's communist past. Chemnitz is home to a large number of interesting places, including the Old Town Hall with its Renaissance portal, the castle on the site of a former monastery and the Red Tower, the oldest building in the city. Once a watchtower and then a prison, it is now part of a museum. The city also has a great many museums, including the Natural History Museum, the Museum Roter Turm, the König Albert art and history Museum and the Villa Esche Museum. Another landmark is the Versteinerter Wald petrified forest.
Don't miss a visit to this interesting city. You won't regret it!
