Samos is one of the Sporades Islands, an archipelago of Greek islands in the Aegean Sea. It is very close to the coast of Asia Minor.
Its natural environment is one of breath-taking beauty. The capital is Samos and its main ports are Vaci, Carlovasi and Pitagorio. It has many places of archaeological interest. Legend has it that it was the birthplace of Hera, wife of Zeus, and of Pythagoras.
The town of Samos and the port of Vaci were constructed in the shape of amphitheatres. Don't miss the Archaeological Museum, the Ecclesiastic Church and the monasteries of Piguis and Ayia Zoni.
Visit the town of Pythagoras, which has a lovely town wall, a necropolis and the Eupaline aqueduct. Close by is the sanctuary to the Goddess Hera, the fishing village of Cocari with its chapels and the monasteries of Carlovasi.
Samos has lots of taverns, but Kokari is the place where you will find the best restaurants, as well as good disco-bars and night clubs where you can dance the night away.
Its coasts hide many little beaches, sheltered coves and other charming places that you can go sailing around and where you can try different water sports.
