Modena is an important Italian city in the Emilia-Romagna region, famous around the world for the production of Lambrusco wine, Modena balsamic vinegar and the sports car makers Ferrari, Maserati, Pagani, Lamborghini and Bugatti.
Its historical centre is located at the Piazza Grande, where you can visit the Duomo, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture; its interior houses ancient sculptures and works of art. Nearby are the Ghiarlandina Tower and the Communal Palace. A little further away, in the Piazza Sant?Agostino square, is the Palace of the Museums, which contains the Estense Gallery. Here you can see some dazzling works by El Greco and Velazquez, among others. You can also see the Ducal Palace, which today houses a Military Academy.
Not far away from the centre of Modena is the headquarters of the Ferrari automobile company, and close to this is the Ferrari Museum, which is very popular with tourists from around the world.
The range of hotels is excellent, and the cuisine of the area is synonymous with good eating. Winter sports and hiking can be done in Sestola, a ski resort near Modena. You are also visit the important cities of Bologna, Ferrara, Parma and others. A trip here will be unforgettable.
