The city of Vicenza is the capital of the province of the same name, in the Veneto region of northern Italy.
The city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994 and boasts a wide variety of buildings and monuments of high architectural and historical value. Among these is the Basilica Palladiana in Piazza dei Signori, built by Palladio in 1549. The Torre Di Piazza is an 80 metre high tower also in Piazza dei Signori and was built in the 12th century, while Torre Del Girone (1494) is in Piazza Erbe. Also well worth a visit are the Venetian Columns, which are next to the Basilica Palladina, and are topped by lovely statues. We also recommend visiting Palazzo Del Monte Di Pieta (14th century) and Palazzo Chiericati (1550), which currently houses the Civic Museum. Another of Vicenza?s attractions is the Teatro Olímpico (1580) in Piazza Matteotti, at the entrance of which you will find a lovely garden full of statues and flowers.
