Tampico is a Mexican city with a major port on the River Panuco estuary, not far from its mouth on the Gulf of Mexico. The main beach of Tampico is the Miramar, with white sand and gentle waves. It is ideal for water sports and activities, and important fishing competitions are held here.
In the heart of the city is the Laguna del Carpintero, with a natural area that is rich in plants and wildlife. It is here that the city's International Motorboat Competition is held. To the west is the El Chairel lagoon ecological park, where you can try canoeing, rowing and fishing. If you want to go snorkelling or diving, the place to go is the River Mante, which has an underground source.
To see examples of Tampico's architecture, you can visit the neo-classical Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the former City Hall and the old Customs House; many of the city's buildings are in the art noveau style.
At the Metropolitano and Experimental theatres, you can enjoy some fine shows and performances.
