Essaouira (formerly known as Mogador) is a port city in Morocco and the capital of the province of Essaouira and the Marrakech-Tensift-El Haouz region. The city's medina was declared UNESCO World Heritage in 2001. We recommend you take a walk here, where you will find traditional cafes, craft shops and the Orson Welles Square, which includes a pleasant garden and a bust of this famous film director, who also shot his movie ?Othello? in this city.
You should also visit the fishing port, have a stroll in the Jewish quarter, visit the Portuguese Cistern, a 16th century fortress, and see the Skala de la Ville, a former military defence that currently offers breathtaking views of the coastline.
