Poznan is a city in mid-west Poland. It lies on the banks of the Warta river and is the capital of the Greater Poland Voivodeship.
The oldest part of town is on the island of Ostrow Tumski. This is where you will find the cathedral and the museum of the Arch-Diocese. In the Market Square, which is in the centre of Poznan, you can visit the Historical Museum, which is housed in the Renaissance-style Town Hall. Watch out for the clock tower and its ornamental lambs. The Museum of Art is in the imposing Royal Castle, while nearby is a lovely Baroque church. The area around Poznan is blessed with some pretty lakes. Malta Lake is famous for its regattas and has recreational zones where you can cycle, skate and ski on an artificial slope. It is also the scene of lots of open-air shows. Nature lovers will be glad to know that the city has not one, but two zoos, the Old Zoo and the New Zoo.
Close to the city is the Greater Poland National Park.
Greater Poland is full of castles and palaces, some of the best of which are Rogalin and Kornik castles.
