Ponce is the main city in the south of Puerto Rico and the second largest on the island.
Its 17th-century old part includes places of historical, cultural and architectural interest, such as: Ponce Cathedral, in the middle of the city's main square, known as Plaza las Delicias; the Ponce Museum of Art; the Parque de Bombas, a building that was once the city's main fire station; and museums housed in mansions or castles with superb architecture; small convents; the La Perla theatre; the Ponce Casino; and many other buildings. Several districts of the city have colonial houses with outstanding wrought iron balconies displaying beautiful flowers. Some of these districts have a picturesque mountainous background.
The old Atocha street is a car-free zone with many shops, restaurants and bars; the perfect place to go shopping. By the Caribbean coastline, walk along the La Guancha boardwalk, have some traditional dishes and drinks and enjoy the different artistic activities that are usually held here. The place is also perfect to fish from the quays.
A number of rivers run here. The most important of them is the Portugués which, together with the Bucana, flow into Ponce port.
Its coastline, by the Caribbean Sea, forms bays and coves and, in the distance, you can see some small islands and keys. Come to visit Ponce.
