Valencia is the capital of the Spanish province of the same name, and one of the largest cities in the country. This old city, on the Mediterranean coast, lies by the River Turia.
Valencia has a notable historical heritage and an intense cultural life. One of the highlights here is the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences, a captivating architectural complex that includes a science museum, a planetarium, an IMAX cinema, an aquarium and soon an art museum. The city of Valencia is also known for its flowers, which flourish in many of its parks and gardens, such as the Parque del Oeste, or West Park, the Royal Gardens and the Turia Gardens, a very popular spot. These run from the City of Arts and Sciences to Valencia Zoo. Valencia also has some areas of historical value such as the Central Market and the Saints John (Baptist and Evangelist) church. Here you can see the Silk Exchange, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture that dates to the year 1482.
