Alanya is a coastal city in the province Antalya in Turkey's Mediterranean Region.
Thanks to its privileged natural position on a small peninsula below the Taurus Mountains, Alanya has been a stronghold for many empires, including the Ptolemaic, the Roman, the Byzantine and the Ottoman Empires. One of the city's main attractions is a Seljuk fortress from the 13th century, which offers a splendid view of the coast.
The region is a lovely spot for swimming, sunbathing and doing different sports such as windsurfing, waterskiing, sailing and climbing.
You can also see Alanya's fascinating old town, Kaleiçi, which has a maze of narrow streets and a beautiful collection of wooden houses beside the old town walls.
There are a number of museums here, as well as the Clock Tower, Hadrian's Gate (which dates back to 130 AD) and some lovely mosques.
