Side is a town on the southern coast of Turkey, in the province of Antalya.
It is a favourite destination among those who come to this exotic country. In ancient times, it was one of the area's most important ports.
The ruins to be found here are some of the best in Asia Minor. The most important of the monuments is the theatre complex, which had seating for between 15 and 20 thousand people. In Byzantine times, the theatre was converted into a sanctuary with two chapels.

Fountains like this were dedicated to the nymphs that were said to inhabit the water. Side's ruins date back to the second century BC, and so, although many of them have deteriorated with the passage of time, they are still impressive and important historical monuments.
