Kendal is an English town located in the county of Cumbria on the banks of the River Kent.
Today, the town has a population of around 28,000 inhabitants and here you can see a number of galleries, two castles, two museums and a great many historic buildings and bridges. There are also a large number of good restaurants and pubs, some high-quality hotels and some great views.
Kendal is often considered to be the gateway to the Lake District and it is close to both Lake Windermere and Keswick. The other lakes are located around two or three hours away by car. The Lake District in general is a fantastic area for walking.
The town's tourist attractions include Kendal Castle, which dates to the end of the 12th century and there are great views of the town from it. Worth a visit, too, is the Kendal Museum, which tells the history of the castle, the people and the life of the town and on show is a model of a reconstruction of the castle. The parish church is over two hundred years old, but the site has been used for worship since at least the 13th century.
